Primary Proms

The Primary Proms provide primary school children with the opportunity to experience live music in a major concert hall and encourage their involvement in music.

FREE CONCERTS FOR 14,700 CHILDREN

The Primary Proms target inner-city children and are aimed at enhancing their creative and spiritual development through music. The concerts, performed by young musicians, are staged in major concert venues and provide a unique opportunity to experience live music of all kinds, from boy bands to orchestras. For the majority of the 4 to 11 year-olds the Primary Proms represent their first encounter with live instrumental and vocal music making. Music for Youth works closely with the Education Departments of major concert providers such as the Royal Albert Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall and with music organisers across the UK to introduce young children to music of all kinds performed by their peers.

YOU CAN HELP US

Every year we receive over 30,000 requests for the 14,700 free places available. We need your help to expand this wonderful programme in our current venues and bring the Primary Proms to other parts of the country. If you know of, or work in, a suitable venue for staging live music let us know who we should contact and we will do the rest. Contact us here.

BIRMINGHAM PRIMARY PROMS

On Tuesday 19 February 2008, 4,000 children enjoyed two concerts this year which included jazz, wind and soul bands. Compere Sam Dunkley treated the children to a fun-packed day and encouraged the young audience to use the instruments they had brought with them; their voices, hands and feet.

“Thank you for a great time, Sam was funny and I loved the loud music!”
